Chin & Jawline Filler in Singapore
When patients ask for a sharper jawline, I do not automatically start with the jawline.
I first look at the chin, jowls, pre-jowl area, jaw shape, under-chin region, and overall facial proportions.
A jawline may look less defined for several different reasons. While dermal filler can improve selected structural concerns, it does not solve every cause of lower-face heaviness or poor jawline definition.
Chin & Jawline Filler Singapore: What Affects Jawline Definition?
A less defined jawline is rarely just a lack of bone structure. It may be related to:
Natural jaw shape and bone structure
Pre-jowl hollowing
Jowls (descending mid-face tissue)
Skin laxity
Under-chin fullness (submental fat)
Facial volume distribution
Lower-face muscle activity (such as enlarged masseter muscles)
Chin & Jawline Filler Singapore: Facial Balancing
Sometimes the chin is the main reason the jawline appears less defined. Improving chin projection can alter how the entire lower face is perceived, without placing large amounts of filler along the jaw itself. This is why I always assess the chin and jawline together.
The chin has a remarkably strong influence on overall facial proportions.
From the Front
- Chin width
- Chin length (to balance the upper and mid-face)
- Symmetry
- The transition and relationship with the jawline
From the Side (Profile)
- Chin projection
- Lip-to-chin relationship (the “E-line”)
- Lower-face balance
- Overall profile harmony
Chin filler may be considered when additional projection, elongation, or structural definition is appropriate for the patient’s anatomy.
Dermal fillers are medical devices used for selected facial areas, including the chin and jawline; the U.S. FDA also advises patients to seek an appropriately trained and experienced healthcare provider.
Chin & Jawline Filler Singapore: The Pre-Jowl Area
Jawline filler may be considered when the aim is to improve selected areas of definition or structural support along the mandibular border.
The objective is not necessarily to create an extremely sharp, hyper-masculine, or angular jaw for everyone.
The amount and placement depend entirely on the person’s existing facial structure and gender aesthetics.
What Is the Pre-Jowl Area?
The pre-jowl area (often called the pre-jowl sulcus) sits exactly between the chin and the developing jowl.
As facial ageing progresses, this specific area can become hollow, while the tissue beside it (the jowl) becomes more prominent.
In selected patients, improving support and filling this specific hollow can camouflage the jowl and make the jawline transition appear significantly smoother.
Matching the Problem to the Treatment
A common mistake in aesthetic medicine is trying to use filler to fix a problem it was not designed for. Here is how I differentiate lower-face concerns:
| Lower Face Concern | Primary Cause | Most Appropriate Treatment Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Weak Profile / Receding Chin | Lack of bone structure/projection | Dermal Fillers (Chin & Jawline) |
| Pre-Jowl Hollowing | Volume loss in the lower face | Dermal Fillers |
| Jowls & Sagging | Skin laxity & tissue descent | HIFU, RF Tightening, or surgical assessment |
| Double Chin | Under-chin submental fat | Fat reduction modalities (lipase, injection, cryotherapy), not fillers |
| Wide Lower Face | Enlarged jaw muscles (Masseters) | Botulinum toxin Injections (Jaw Slimming) |
Chin & Jawline Filler Singapore: Jowls & Double Chin
Jawline Filler vs Jowls
Jowls are not simply a “lack of filler.” They are caused by tissue descent, skin laxity, structural ageing, and volume changes in the mid-face. If skin laxity is the dominant problem, adding filler alone to the jawline may make the lower face look heavier and wider, which does not give the most appropriate result.
Jawline Filler vs Double Chin
These are completely different concerns. Jawline filler changes selected areas of structure or definition. A double chin usually refers to fullness beneath the chin. Filler does not remove under-chin fat. Some patients have both structural concerns and under-chin fullness, which is why a comprehensive assessment of the entire lower face is required.
When Filler May Not Be the Main Answer
Filler may not be the main treatment if your concern is predominantly:
- Significant jowling and tissue descent
- Loose, sagging skin
- Under-chin fullness (fat)
- Neck laxity
- Muscle-related lower-face width

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do chin and jawline fillers last?
Because the chin and jawline require thicker, more structural hyaluronic acid or biostimulatory fillers to mimic the feel of bone, results in this area typically last longer than softer areas of the face. Depending on the specific product used and your body’s metabolism, results generally last between 12 to 18 months, and sometimes longer.
Will jawline filler make my face look masculine or bulky?
Not if placed correctly. The injection technique and placement differ significantly between male and female patients. For women, the goal is usually a sleek, refined contour that separates the face from the neck. For men, the goal is often to widen the jaw and create stronger, more angular corners. Treatment is always tailored to your specific aesthetic goals.
Do I need jawline filler or jaw slimming injections?
This depends on your anatomy. If your lower face looks wide because your masseter (chewing) muscles are enlarged, Botulinum toxin injections are used to slim the muscle. If your lower face lacks definition because your bone structure is weak, dermal fillers are used to build that structure. In some cases, both are used together to slim the back of the jaw while projecting the chin.
